The MJ/Magic/LeBron controversy

Ok, I was not going to chime in on this simply because its getting on my nerves. Micheal Jordan and Magic Johnson were asked their opinions of the so-called "super-friends" down in Miami. Now full disclosure I am a huge Lakers fan and Magic Johnson is my favorite player ever. In fact he's the primary reason I started watching basketball. I really couldn't stand Jordan simply because everyone else was so enamored with him. Doesn't mean I didn't follow and love the Cavs, I am just a bigger Laker fan. The Cavs pushed me away when they traded Ron Harper back in the day.

Anyway - Jordan and Magic were asked their OPINION, which they have earned the right to talk about because they have a combined 11 rings. So they can say whatever they like!! They have done more for basketball and for LeBron ( ya think LBJ would have all those marketing opportunities if it wasn't for Jordan? ummm nope) Yes they had great teams, but also they made their teams great. Yes Magic had Kareem but he was almost 40 years old, and do you think Worthy would have been a Top 50 player without him? umm no. And don't even get me started on Pippen - who was an excellent player but was made better by MJ's presence.

Look LeBron has every right to change teams, that's what free agency is about, but they way he did it was the problem. And I'm tired of people saying that he didn't have help - yes he is  a great player but they didn't win 61 and 66 games the past two years solely because of him. But he's from here - and he knows the city, for someone who seems so media savvy that was one of the worst moves I have ever seen.

Jay-Z and Eminem Live on Letterman

The Roots - How I Got Over

It's a well known fact I am a Roots Stan - I don't think I've missed a show they have done in Cleveland for the past 5 or 6 years (on a side note if ?uestlove is ever Djing in your make sure to check him out), but that aside - this is the best Roots album I have heard in awhile. Why? There are no tracks to skip over - just an excellent flow of music from one track to the next. This and Revolutions Per Minute (Talib and Hi-Tek) are easily my favorite albums of the year so far. I could name a couple of tracks to pay attention to but I think this is a work better taken in its entirety.

NINE WORDS WOMEN USE

(1)  Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)
(6) That's Okay:  This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome' . that will bring on a 'whatever').
(8) Whatever: Is a woman's way of saying F-- YOU!
(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3.

Reflection Eternal: Revolutions per Minute

I took a little long on this post, but this is a great album. Talib and Hi-Tek have excellent chemistry, with Tek's beats providing an excellent soundscape for Talib's flow. This is one of the albums that can be listened to in its entirety (a rarity these days) because the songs just seem to flow together so well. My faves: City Playgrounds, Strangers (Paranoid), In the Red, and Just Begun with two of my favorite newer MC's Jay Electronica and J.Cole. It's definitely worth picking up.

Outliers Review

Finished reading Outliers: The Story Of Success by Malcolm Gladwell, an excellent book about success that defies the normal notions that success is all about just hard work, sometimes its a matter of circumstance and the opportunities one has, and your ability to take advantage of those opportunities. Many times these circumstances are beyond our control and have come through generational learning. Overall an excellent read - I highly suggest it.
